Upgrading to Town Hall 4 is the massive step in advancing through the earlier levels of Clash of Clans. New buildings, troops, and strategies are introduced at this level that will drastically change how you play the game. You will need to be proficient in not only base design and resource management but also offensive strategies at Town Hall 4. First off, if talking about base design, protection is the key. Place your Town Hall in the middle and set up your most powerful defenses around it. Build your brand-new Mortar by placing it at that point which will let it protect maximum space of your base. Now, the walls are pretty important at this stage of the game, so make sure not to waste them on compartments which are going to serve to slow down enemy troops. Remember to keep your resources safe and your Gold and Elixir storages deep into your base, well-guarded by your defenses.

This will keep the rest of your troops alive during attacks. Feel free to experiment with a lot of troop combinations, but one of the popular strategies is what is referred to as the "Giant-Healer" combo, where Giants act as tanks and Healers keep them alive. Barbarians and Archers will still be helpful in picking off buildings and really should make up the core of most of your attacks.
In terms of attacking, Town Hall 4 opens up new avenues for you. Now, with the increased capacity of your army and your new troops, you will be able to go after more difficult bases. Look for bases in which all of the collectors are full. Those bases tend to be easier targets and will more than likely have good loot in them to take out. When you do attack them, do it strategically using your troops. Use Giants as a way to distract defenses while your damage-dealing troops, like Archers and Wizards, take down buildings. Do not forget to include your Clan Castle troops if you are in a clan. Quite often, they will be able to turn the tide of battle in your favor.
Clan participation is more crucial at Town Hall 4. If you haven't done so already, join an active clan. The Clan Castle troops can give you a very great advantage on defense and offense. Be sure to return this favor by donating troops back to your fellow clanmates. This not only helps your clan but also earns you experience points, which will help you level up even faster.
While advancing further to Town Hall 4, you will need to continuously upgrade your troops and spells in the Laboratory. You will know that with more powerful troops, you will get more out of your attacks in resources and trophies. Not to forget, defenses aren't supposed to be left behind either. Keep upgrading them as much as possible to make your base resilient against attacks.
Be patient; Clash of Clans is a game of patience. You will want to rush to the next Town Hall level, but be patient and fully maximize buildings, troops, and walls at Town Hall 4. You will have built a very strong foundation for further steps in the game. Soon enough, with dedication and proper gameplay, you will find yourself ready for Town Hall 5 and beyond.
